Kishan Reddy Demands White Paper on State Finances

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has issued a formal demand to the Telangana government to release a comprehensive “White Paper” regarding the state’s financial health. This request comes just ahead of the Legislative Assembly’s budget session, scheduled to begin on March 16. The Minister expressed serious concerns over the transparency of the state’s current economic status and the mounting debt affecting every citizen.

In an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Union Minister highlighted what he called “contradictory statements” from the ruling administration. He pointed out that while the state government frequently claims the treasury is empty, other high-level political remarks suggest significant funds are available for non-administrative purposes. According to the Minister, a detailed document is necessary to provide the public with verified figures on income, expenditures, and liabilities.

Highlighting the support from the Central Government, the Minister stated that over the last 12 years, the Union has allocated nearly ₹12 lakh crore to Telangana. This includes significant amounts through tax devolution, infrastructure projects, and welfare schemes. He emphasized that during the last six years alone, the state received over ₹10,000 crore in interest-free loans specifically for capital investments to boost local development and infrastructure.

The demand also addressed the release of ₹1,034 crore in Central grants to 12,702 gram panchayats across Telangana today. The Minister urged the state to ensure these funds are utilized effectively for village-level progress rather than being diverted. He concluded by stating that placing all financial facts before the legislature is essential for an informed democratic debate and to secure the future economic stability of the state.
