Kaleshwaram Restoration Gets CM’s Green Light

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has officially signaled a shift from investigation to action regarding the state’s massive irrigation infrastructure. During a high-level review meeting held at his residence, the CM directed officials to launch immediate, fast-track repairs on the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages.

The directive focuses on restoring the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme to its full operational capacity. Following technical setbacks involving sunken pillars, the government is now aligning its efforts with the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority. The goal is to ensure the structures are stabilized and ready for the upcoming monsoon season.

A specialized team is being formed, bringing together expertise from the Irrigation Department, Central Water Commission, and various design consultants. This collaborative group will oversee the technical intricacies of the project, including a massive study of the 1.6-kilometer barrage stretch at Medigadda.

To ensure transparency and speed, the Chief Minister has ordered the drilling of 500 borewells near the affected sites for detailed soil and structural analysis. He has also instructed the establishment of a base camp at Medigadda to facilitate round-the-clock monitoring and faster decision-making on-site.

Emphasizing that funding will not be an obstacle, Reddy warned that any administrative delays would be taken seriously. The government aims to finalize all major repair designs and schedules by the end of the year, with a priority on completing essential safety tests before the heavy rains arrive.

This move is seen as a major step toward securing the state’s agricultural water supply and addressing long-standing concerns over the project’s integrity. The Chief Minister has committed to personally inspecting the progress once the groundwork commences in the coming days.
