India and Israel Seal Special Strategic Ties
India and Israel have officially elevated their relationship to a “Special Strategic Partnership” following high-level discussions in Jerusalem. During his historic visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Knesset, emphasizing the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between the two nations. This new level of partnership is designed to go beyond traditional buyer-seller dynamics, focusing instead on long-term co-development and joint research.
A key highlight of the agreement is the commitment to fast-track a Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. Both leaders have directed their respective ministries to finalize the terms by the end of the year. This deal is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade, particularly in sectors like high-end technology, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. The move aims to open new market opportunities for businesses in both countries, creating a more integrated economic corridor.
Defense cooperation has also taken a major leap forward with a focus on “Make in India.” The two nations signed multiple agreements for the joint production of advanced defense equipment, including state-of-the-art drone technology and missile systems. By sharing technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities, India seeks to enhance its self-reliance in the defense sector while Israel expands its strategic industrial footprint in Asia.
The Prime Minister’s address to the Israeli Parliament was met with a standing ovation, especially his call for peace and stability in the region. He reiterated India’s firm support for the Gaza peace initiative, noting that a stable West Asia is vital for global energy security and trade.
