Housing Minister Announces Distribution Target

Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious “Housing for All” program is gearing up for a major milestone, with the government setting a clear target to hand over the keys to five lakh beneficiaries by the upcoming Ugadi festival. This massive drive is part of the state’s broader commitment to ensure every eligible poor family achieves the dignity and security of owning their own home by 2029. The Chief Minister has personally stressed the importance of accelerating construction and maintaining transparency in the process.
The directive to meet this substantial target by the Telugu New Year comes following a recent high-level review meeting with officials from the Housing Department and the Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO). The goal is to not only finish the houses but also to begin organizing collective housewarming ceremonies every quarter, starting with the Ugadi event, to celebrate this significant achievement on a large scale.
A total of twenty lakh houses are planned for construction across the state since the government took office. Out of this number, over three lakh homes have already been successfully completed and inaugurated, providing shelter to thousands of families. The remaining seventeen lakh houses are now on an accelerated schedule, with officials directed to ensure they are finished within the next three years to meet the 2029 deadline.
Financial support for the housing schemes is a key focus area. The government is committed to providing enhanced assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 1.0. Importantly, a special announcement was made to provide an additional financial aid of fifty thousand rupees for Muslim minority beneficiaries. This decision, which requires an outlay of ninety crore rupees for approximately eighteen thousand families, underscores the administration’s focus on inclusive welfare.
In a move to ensure fairness and prevent delays, officials have been instructed to swiftly complete the ongoing survey for identifying all remaining eligible beneficiaries, including those who may not have registered yet. The government has directed that a comprehensive list of these deserving families be prepared and displayed village-wise for public review. This measure is intended to maintain high levels of public satisfaction and ensure that the process is completely transparent at the local level.
Furthermore, officials are working to ensure that house sites are promptly allotted to new applicants and that possession certificates are issued without delay to those who already own their land. The Chief Minister also called on the departments to coordinate with the central government to clear pending bills, totaling around nine hundred and twenty crore rupees, related to the NTR Rural Housing Scheme from the 2014-2019 period. This clearance is vital to ensure funds flow smoothly and that all housing construction works proceed without financial bottlenecks. The entire housing program is being monitored closely, with a commitment to making all construction progress updates available online for public view, reinforcing the government’s pledge to accountability in the state’s largest welfare housing mission.
