Congress High Command Reviews Telangana Government Performance

In a major political development, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and senior cabinet ministers met with the Congress top leadership in New Delhi today. The meeting, chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, focused on reviewing the state government’s performance following the party’s recent victory in the Telangana Municipal Polls. Discussions also covered the selection of candidates for upcoming Rajya Sabha seats and the long-awaited cabinet expansion.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has strongly criticized this Delhi visit. Senior leader T. Harish Rao termed the performance review by the AICC leadership as an “affront to Telangana’s pride.” He argued that the state’s governance is being remote-controlled from the national capital rather than being managed locally. In response, Congress leaders dismissed these claims, stating that the BRS is simply “rattled” after their significant losses in recent local body elections.

Adding a new twist to the political landscape, K. Kavitha announced today that she will launch a new political party in May. After her suspension from the BRS last year, she stated that her new outfit would feature “Telangana” in its name and aim to become the primary opposition. She expressed her intent to contest the next Assembly elections from the Siddipet or Bodhan constituencies, directly challenging her former party’s stronghold.

On the administrative front, the state government has officially scheduled the Telangana Assembly Budget Session to begin on February 26. The session will open with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s address, with Deputy CM Mallikarjun Bhatti Vikramarka expected to present the 2026-27 State Budget on February 28. This session is expected to be a fiery one, as the opposition plans to corner the government on various local issues and developmental delays.

Finally, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy outlined an ambitious “Net Zero Hyderabad 2034” goal during a climate summit. The plan involves shifting all industrial units from the core urban area to peri-urban zones within the next five years. This policy aims to transform Hyderabad into a green manufacturing hub, backed by a city-wide carbon footprint audit and the strengthening of the environmental police force, HYDRAA.
