BJP Fires Back with “Impeach Congress” Rebuttal

The political atmosphere in New Delhi reached a boiling point today as the BJP launched a fierce counter-offensive against the Opposition’s move to oust Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Following the submission of a no-confidence notice by the Congress-led bloc, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra delivered a scathing response, asserting that the country should instead “impeach” the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi from Indian politics.
The ruling party’s sharp reaction follows a morning of high drama where 118 Opposition MPs moved a resolution under Article 94(c) of the Constitution to remove the Speaker. The BJP has framed this move as a direct assault on constitutional institutions. Patra alleged that the Opposition is acting at the behest of external interests to destabilize the democratic fabric of the nation, especially during the crucial Budget discussions.
While the Congress and its allies, including the DMK and Samajwadi Party, have unified behind the notice, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has notably abstained from signing it. This internal divide within the Opposition has given the BJP additional ammunition. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress for “partisan behavior,” claiming they are deliberately stalling the House to prevent a healthy debate on the Union Budget.
Adding to the friction, the BJP’s women parliamentarians have also written to the Speaker, demanding strict action against Opposition members for alleged misconduct during the Motion of Thanks. They accused several MPs of crossing over to the Treasury benches and creating a “security threat” near the Prime Minister’s seat.
As the 14-day notice period begins, the political deadlock shows no signs of easing. The BJP maintains that the Speaker has acted with total impartiality, while the Congress insists that the denial of speaking time to the Leader of the Opposition made this “extraordinary step” necessary. The nation now watches as this constitutional tug-of-war unfolds in the heart of the capital.
