Amaravati to be Declared “Sole & Permanent Capital”

The landscape of Andhra Pradesh politics shifted significantly today as the State Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, passed a definitive resolution regarding the state’s future. The government has officially moved to declare Amaravati as the “sole and permanent capital” of Andhra Pradesh, seeking to end years of administrative uncertainty and legal debates over the multi-city capital model.

This landmark decision comes after extensive consultations with legal experts and the Union Government. The Cabinet’s resolution aims to streamline governance by centering all primary legislative, executive, and judicial hubs within Amaravati. By establishing a single seat of power, the administration hopes to accelerate infrastructure development and restore investor confidence, which had been tempered by previous shifts in policy.

The state government is now prepared to approach the Centre to formally notify Amaravati’s status under the AP Reorganisation Act. This move is expected to simplify land allotment processes and clear the path for large-scale urban projects. Officials stated that a unified capital is essential for the brand image of the state, ensuring that administrative functions are not fragmented across different regions.

Public reaction has been swift, with many residents in the Amaravati region celebrating the clarity this provides for their future. However, the government also emphasized that this central focus will not lead to the neglect of other regions. A balanced development plan is being drafted to ensure that North Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema receive dedicated industrial corridors and economic packages to maintain state-wide growth.

A special session of the Legislative Assembly has been proposed for later this week to provide a statutory backbone to this resolution. Once passed, the bill will serve as the final word on the capital issue, potentially bringing a decade-long political saga to a close. The focus now shifts to the rapid completion of the iconic buildings and the Metro Rail project planned for the capital city.
