Amaravati Officially Declared Permanent Capital

The long-standing uncertainty regarding the capital of Andhra Pradesh has finally come to an end. In a historic move, the Parliament has officially declared Amaravati as the permanent and sole capital of the state. This decision follows the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which provides legal and statutory backing to the city.

The new legislation amends the 2014 Reorganisation Act, effectively replacing the previous transitional arrangements. It confirms that Amaravati is the seat of governance, ending the “three-capital” proposal that had caused years of administrative and legal debate. The central government’s move aligns with the resolution recently passed by the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly.

With this official declaration, the state government is now set to accelerate infrastructure projects in the region. Thousands of farmers who participated in the land-pooling scheme expressed relief as the decision ensures the development of a world-class city. The move is expected to attract significant investments and boost economic growth across the state.

Public leaders and citizens have welcomed the clarity brought by this law. By making Amaravati the permanent capital, the government aims to provide a stable environment for administration and judicial functions. This development marks a new chapter in the history of Andhra Pradesh, focusing on a unified vision for its future growth and prosperity.
